Carmen Sandiego Given the Netflix Treatment
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

Hoo boy, I felt such dread when I heard Netflix had cast the gaze of Sauron onto Carmen Sandiego, especially remembering what they did to Shun of Knights of the Zodiac. Like many of the day, I grew up watching the exploits of the great thief. I played the games and watched the TV shows that saw the titular thief one step ahead of the law. Well, let's take a look at what Netflix decided was a great continuation of that legendary saga that was a huge part of my formative years.

Uh huh. Now for a summary:

"Carmen is a modern day Robin Hood traveling the globe and stealing from V.I.L.E. (Villain's International League of Evil) and giving back to its victims. Carmen is publicly perceived as a criminal by most law enforcement agencies – correction, make that a master criminal due to the sheer scale and theatricality of her heists. We will follow her escapades and get to determine not only where but who in the world is Carmen Sandiego?"

So yeah, Netflix did it again. By IT, I mean they took a beloved character and changed it. Look, if it's not broken, don't fix it. The Carmen from the original series was just a thief. She stole, because she could. They turned a timeless villain into a knock-off Robin Hood with Kim Possible skills, gear, and apparently sidekicks.

If I can leave this article with one big of positive thing to say, the art style doesn't look bad. It's not the PS2-quality graphics from Knights. Looks similar to Samurai Jack and Tangled Ever After, and I liked that style.
