Berserk Fans Get a Fanmade Motion Comic as a Christmas Gift
By Yung Namahage • 5 years ago

While Adi Shankar might be attempting to secure the rights to bring his vision of Berserk to Netflix, fans of Kentaro Miura's dark fantasy epic don't have to struggle much longer for an animated version that's close to the source material.

Announced almost two years ago, Studio Taka have finally released the first episode of their Berserk motion comic. Starting from the very first chapter of the series, (just after the uncharacteristic sex and demon slaying in the first few pages) this ambitious fan project is basically a 1:1 adaptation of the manga. Seriously, I had the book open in front of me as I watched and each and every panel was accounted for. Even the dialogue is pretty close to Dark Horse's translation of the original Japanese.

The awesome voice acting and animation do a great job of bringing the manga to life while showcasing Miura's signature art style that had been sadly sacrificed in certain other, bigger budget adaptations. In just under 20 minutes, the first episode covers about half of the first chapter, and I'm excited to see more. Miura was still refining his trademark style while creating the Black Swordsman arc, and one can only imagine what his more developed style from the Golden Age onward would look like after being given the motion comic treatment by Studio Taka.
