Arknights Makes Getting Clean Dirty
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

While it's a pretty new entry in the gacha scene, I've noticed a lot of hype surrounding Arknights these last few weeks. This tower defense mobile game from China features a pretty cool post-apocalyptic aesthetic, extensive lore and, as is custom for gacha games, a truckload of waifus. Since waifus are the means by which a gacha game lives or dies, it only makes sense for the game's marketing and merchandise to focus on the cute girls that make this game in particular unique. In this case, Arknights characters are being used to give fans an opportunity to simultaneously clean themselves while satisfying their dirtier urges.

That's right, we finally have waifu soap.

Like a lewd and hygienic Kinder Egg, these soaps hold a figurine of the best girl of your choosing: the mint-scented one comes with Amiya, the rose-scented one has Eyjafjalla and the strawberry-scented one features Skyfire. The opaque tint of the soap is meant to obscure the figures' bodies so the buyer is motivated to use the soap, hopefully by washing themself in the shower, so they can uncover the goods within and eventually free their favorite operator from their fragrant prison, although there's nothing to stop anyone from just melting or cutting off the soap so they can cheat their way to the figurine. It's easy to make a joke about lazy, unwashed otakus but you can't deny that the makers of these know their target audience.

Speaking of which, we don't know if these are an official Arknights branded product, a fanmade effort or just a third party cash grab. But if you'd like to get your hands on one, check 'em out on Tmall here.
