Not an anime, but a really funny show. Well, I’m considering it funny just from the few clips I’ve seen. Smiling Friends has ended, with many people thinking it was just some kind of joke. But, with months passing without any news, and April Fools day being completely over. It seems like the decision was actually final.
Smiling Friends was like the Family Guy and King of the Hill of our generation. Every clip I saw of Smiling Friends made me laugh, and knowing that one of the Sleepy Cabin members, Zach, was a part of it, made my appreciation for it even more. Knowing that someone who used to be a Newgrounds animator, making an actual TV program animation, was really inspiring and eye opening. And it wasn’t just slop like some Youtuber movies are. It was actually making me laugh out loud.
I always thought Zach was funny when I heard him on SleepyCabin or Oney Plays, but sometimes that comedy doesn’t translate well to a script. But I’m happy to say it did. With 3 seasons of great success, and being renewed for a 4th and 5th season, the team ultimately thought it would be best to end the show on a high note, instead of milking it until people got sick of it. Some shows like SpongeBob and Family Guy just seem like classics that just keep getting better with age, but some people have stated that Simpsons has been going downhill over the years. Hell, manga run into that pit hole many times. Bleach should have ended after Azin, and did we really need Boruto after Naruto? So Smiling Friends had the chance to be a timeless experience, but instead became an everlasting classic, which might have been the best option.
Have you watched Smiling Friends? Do you think ending it was the best call? Would you have liked to have seen a seasons 4 and 5? Tell us in the comments.
