I don’t think Gachiakuta is breaking any new grounds, but before getting into their second cour, they drop a backstory bomb that really turned me around on the series, and that’s Amo backstory.

Amo is looking like she’s going to be the main female MC, and the love interest/driving force for our main character Rudo. But that’s just my speculation from what I’ve seen so far. But the main thing I wanted to talk about it the complete 180 this anime made me do. I was completely uninterested in this show, and wrote it off as your typical uninteresting shonen. But Amo's backstory really made me sit up in my chair, and actually pay attention.

And it’s not just because her backstory involved sexual assault, abuse, and manipulation. It’s the way it was presented. Showing how badly Amo's mind was warped, and twisted to think everything she was dealing with was okay. And presenting it in a crayon, coloring book kind of way, was just the icing on the cake.

But then, you have some people saying that the scene wasn’t even that fucked up. Saying somethig like Redo The Healer is more fucked up. Which, I’d have to disagree. Yeah, Redo The Healer might have more “fucked up” scenes, but context matter. Redo the Healer is doing it for shock value, while Gachiakuta did it in a way, where it creeps up on you. It doesn’t feel like it was done for shock value, but to lock the viewer in place, making them slowly consume what they’re viewing and think. It keeps your attention from beginning to end and just leaves you there thinking…
Such a well done, and delivered backstory, that kept me watching the show. And I’m happy I did, the show is really picking up steam, and with the recent arc, I was on it for the long haul. Gachiakuta isn’t going to break any records from what I can tell, but it’s still a more enjoyable shonen than Black Clover.
